A Preacher That Loves Monday's
Many pastors take off Monday. That is not my normal routine though. I will stay around the house for the morning most weeks if nothing is pressing, but Monday is not my day off (as I really don't take a set day off anyway). I think the reason that many pastors take off Monday is because of the stress of Sunday.
It is also widely thought of between pastors that if another church family were to call to see about getting that pastor, Monday would be the day to call because that is the day the pastor is frustrated and ready to leave because of the previous day, Sunday.
Well, both of the situations above are not for me. I am coming to love Monday's more and more. The reason I love Monday's is because the Lord's Day, Sunday, is so fresh on my heart and mind. This week is another fine example of God's grace and provision in my life and our lives together. I can't imagine dealing with all that took place this past week in our church family apart from each other and Christ.
Yesterday, I preached from Matthew 18:7-9. These were three tough verses that Jesus said and it was a reminder of the seriousness of sin. I mentioned that one way that God protects us through temptation is by giving us the each other and the Lord's Day. The writer of Hebrews says it this way: And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
This is why gathering together is so important. Not because church attendance gains us righteousness, but rather it is the will of God for His people to gather weekly so that we can "encourage one another to love and good works." So, we see that the primary place we are to do that is through our regular weekly gathering. But some have a bad habit of not meeting. It is heart breaking and this is why Jesus says later in Matthew 18 that we must take this seriously as a church. We will take up that issue in a few weeks during the preaching time.
My point for this article is to just reflect on this past Sunday and proclaim that this preacher loves Monday's because of what God is doing in our midst on Sunday's! So my beloved brothers and sisters, let's not fail to meet together...because it is God's will and provision in our lives! This is for our good and His glory!
Blessings to each of you and I look forward to next Sunday...and Monday!
