Senior Adults, Sweet Fellowship, God's Provision

I write this from a the hotel lobby in Gatlinburg, TN. I am here with a group of senior adults from our church. This is the third time in 6 years I have brought a group to this conference, and I wonder why I haven't done it every year. I say this not because of the singing, preaching, or even the conference. Now, don't hear me wrong...all of that has been great. Even though Southern Gospel music is not my absolute first choice, those that I am with love it and it so thrills my heart to see them worshipping in such a vibrant way. The conference has been great. We heard an awesome message this morning from current SBC president Johnny Hunt. He preached from James and really spoke to the issue of being "doers of the Word." I am thankful for this message, we all were reflective towards Christ and our faithfulness because of it and I am grateful. So, the conference has been great. But the reason this has been such an awesome time is because it reminds me of God's wisdom in how He provides for us. He provides for us through the body of Christ, the church, and those in it being of all ages. If you have an opportunity, read Titus 2. Today was a sweet day for Teresa and I, because that took place. We spent the morning in a "worship" setting until lunch. But then we got in my van, it was filled with "senior adults" and we drove up the mountain and toured Cades Cove. The scenery outside was reflecting God's glory, the conversation inside the van was absolutely God's grace in my life. We laughed, shared in each others' lives, talked about what was important in life, and just relished a day that seems to be too few and far between in today's world. We just spent time together! God's people, different generations, completely united...all because of Christ. It was sweet fellowship and I see it fully as God's provision in my life. I tremble for those church bodies that are only "young people" or "older people". They are missing out on part of God's provision for their life.
I too am so Thankful for the Senior Adults at DBC (although I may already be classified as, or at least rapidly approaching that status). My generation and the generation below me can learn so much from the Wisdom of those who have seen and experienced so much and through their faith and trusting in Christ have persevered. I too love to sit and chat and hear the stories of years ago. I remember as a child going to Mrs. Margaret Thompson's (Mrs Virgina's Mother) and sit and hear stories of years gone by and also walking across the field to the to the Williams Farm to Mrs and Mrs R.O. Williams Sr. and walk in the house and sit and watch "The Jokers Wild" game show. I used to love to hear my Grandparent stories, and most of all the fact that they were an example of what it means to be a Child of the King. I hope and pray that I can be the same kind of Blessing to those that come after me. Glad your having a great time!! Can't wait to hear all of the stories, and I know there will be many especially with the trouble makers you have with you :-) You had stories before you even got out of KY from what I hear!! Blessings, Jim
